Joanna L. Pearce, Ph.D.
Disability-based historian who is excited to be teaching some amazing students about dead people. Ask me about my dogs!
- I don't know if my students learned anything today except that my mother still hates Trudeau over the flag and that you shouldn't google "little Polish girls" without knowing what you're getting into. (The Polish Dionnes was the goal.)
- These dogs need more attention.
- Gonna talk to my students about the importance of reaching out if you need mental health supports because the February of it all but I really understand why people just want to put up a poster. "Call 988 if you're feeling suicidal" will, I hope, be more meaningful coming from someone who has called.
- Y'all, I was very brave and I called someone to help me because I feel too depressed to do work alone in my apartment so now I'm going to have lunch and a working part.
- Just to update on this I have now called a clinic here in the city to see if I can see a doctor about the really god awful symptoms of anemia I'm living with on top of the depression (which may be completely related). I probably won't see a doctor any time soon but I'm now on a list.
- I had nightmares last night about the Epstein and Gaiman stuff so at least I understand why I feel so awful today. The wrong people are suffering.
- BFF Emmy is dipping her toes in the world of D&D and was asking me about it because she thinks I might know something about it and y'all. Y'all. I remember when D&D sets came with crayons to colour the dice. I'm trying not to be obnoxious here because I don't know anything about current D&D.
- She just told me "of course you played as a kid. You have theatre kid energy." EMMY. I RAN LARPS. PLURAL. IN MULTIPLE COUNTRIES. Of course I was a theatre kid.
- The darkness has truly come for me.
- The dogs think we should go somewhere else.
- I am reminded of this article from 2018 "Batali’s another drop in the bucket. He’s not the first, he certainly won’t be the last (he already isn’t). The misogyny runs so deep that the calls now come from inside our heads. "
- Hope.
