- Been busy with other assignments at Ford Field, but it was me who caught up with the fan who D.K. Metcalf swung at. Definitely one of the strangest statements I've gotten on tape. www.freep.com/story/sports...
- Great comeback and all but i dont think this game has anyone thinking the bears are for real
- Best game of the season
- Love my city’s new public transit campaign! Don’t love the typo!
- Most of the stuff I write is ephemeral, but occasionally I'll get an assignment that I still look back and enjoy reading. And considering the consensus on AI in my immediate orbit is largely negative, this was a satisfying project to complete: www.freep.com/story/sports...

- I’m not sure if Miami is the second-best team in the MAC, but with the best conference record and a title-game win, WMU most certainly is the best
- Lance Taylor lifts trophy for WMU, winning first MAC title in third year as Broncos coach
- Another dumbfounding decision, this time from WMU. Instead of icing the game with a 29-yd FG, the direct-snap fake to the holder was stopped, giving Miami an ever-so-slight chance of a comeback. I mean, WMU is probably going to win anyway, but come on.
- And the failed onside kick doesn't bite Miami, with WMU aggressively attempting to convert on a 4th-and-1 instead of try the 51-yd FG. Broc Lowry's pass falls incomplete and Miami takes over down by 10 ... with no timeouts left, mind you.
- Another bizarre choice by Miami. Down by two scores with 6:43 left, they elect to try an onside kick, which WMU recovered, now taking over close to field-goal range. Bad process, bad result imo.
- WMU has fixed their passing weakness by simply not passing in the 2nd half. Quarterback Broc Lowry started the half 7-of-10 and early in the 4th he is still 7-of-10.
- WMU initially brought out its FG unit on a 4th-and-2 for a 47-yd try, but decided to go for it instead. Miami stopped Broc Lowry short of the line, forcing the TOD. WMU kicker Palmer Domschke had already hit a 50-yd FG earlier in the game, so the kick was within reach. Instead, Miami has the ball
- Which is to say ... weird decision! A FG makes it a three-score game, while a TD still makes it a three-score game. But it's now a two-score game after the TOD. Maybe WMU just doesn't respect Miami's offense right now?
- My math was wrong here ... WMU still has a three-score lead, just barely. Still, weird call imo.
- Now it's Miami's turn for a questionable decision! Instead of attempting a 41-yd FG, they go for it on 4th-and-2, leading to a Nadame Tucker sack and TOD. Could've cut the lead to two TDs with the FG, instead WMU has the ball.
- WMU running back Jalen Buckley now has 160 yards on 9 carries, though 131 of those yards come on his two long TD runs. Broncos can run away with this one if Miami doesn't respond quickly.
- Halftime: WMU 16, Miami (OH) 6. Miami's defense did a better job forcing WMU into passing situations in the second quarter, but three defensive pass interference calls in the first half bailed out WMU QB Broc Lowry.
- Meanwhile, WMU has the easier defensive assignment with Miami QB Thomas Gotkowski very much looking like a third stringer, going 7-for-15 and being outgained through the air by a run-first QB in Lowry. Things could flip if Miami can get the run game going, however.
- Another big reversal on a Nadame Tucker fumble recovery TD, taking six points off the board for WMU. Gotta say, all three reversed calls looked correct live and then were correctly changed. Good job by the refs so far.
- And now Miami's dancers have a routine to Kendrick Lamar's "HUMBLE," which was also not on my bingo card
- Miami's defense is doing a better job forcing the WMU offense into third-and-long situations, forcing the Bronco's super-mobile QB Broc Lowry into passing situations. Unfortunately for the RedHawks, they're struggling to defend passes without getting flags thrown.
- After an explosive first quarter, both WMU and Miami go three-and-out and punt in their first full drives of the second.
- WMU held the ball for 12 minutes in the first quarter, and Miami held it for 3 minutes. Good sign for the Broncos.
- WMU's offense looks pretty crisp right now, especially if Miami keeps getting called for pass interference. Broncos have 10-6 lead after 1Q, looking to extend driving in the red zone
- Lowry's fumble and subsequent 82-yard runback was (correctly) reversed. Two big reversals so far, one going each team's way.
- Play-action pass to the TE on 4th-and-2 is a nutso call from a team that runs as well as WMU, and it worked
- WMU looked like it had held Miami to a 4th down, but a second roughing-the-passer call gave the RedHawks new life at the goal line. Miami scored a TD on the next play. Though the Broncos blocked the PAT ... so that's something?
- Miami comes on the field to Outkast's "B.O.B.", which was not on my bingo card
- WMU fans outnumber Miami fans at about a 60-40 ratio 15 min before kickoff. More coming in, lower bowl should be mostly full by kickoff
