- Was a little shocked to see one of the Hamburg canals actually frozen over today... Checked the weather, it's -3 degrees and bitter cold. I can't imagine it in Ukraine, with no or intermittent electricity in many parts of the country.
- "the hysteria that has developed about abuse of women" In my linguistics undergrad, we got introduced to syntax with Chomsky. With a lot of criticism of it too, sure, but on top of a foundation of generative grammar. In my first week of uni, the older girls warned us about the 'rapey Meadows' 1/2
- which we should avoid going through at night. (The Meadows is a park between the campus + student bars and a district where many students live.) "the hysteria that has developed about abuse of women" in 2019!!!! Separate the linguist from the theory and all, but this one genuinely hurts. 2/2
