Non-spoiler new comics reviews on Tuesdays!
- Everyone has been asking for follow up to the Absolute Evil one shot and Absolute Superman 16 has something for you. Hawkman pays a personal visit to Superman to impart some harsh lessons. Meanwhile, Brainiac interrupts a birthday party in Missouri that will have major impacts. Get back in on this!
- For Damian Wayne fans, Batman 6 and DC K.O. Knightfight 4 read well together. Batman does through a test similar to what Superman experienced when he came into contact with the Black Mercy. If he can't pass it then he can't get back into the tournament or possibly anywhere else!
- Another outstanding issue of Batman. Not that other series have been off in some way at all, but so far this series just feels right. Vague, but if you're reading it then you know that there's something fresh for the modern era but also entirely on brand going on. If you're not with it, catch up!
- The Year One story in JSA has been outstanding. Its pretty exciting to me that new readers get to experience these classic heroes and villains in this new way and connect with them. I think this will be a go-to graphic novel.
- Livewire gets some spotlight in the Superman Chains of Love Special. I can't help but hear her in Lori Petty's voice which isn't a bad thing. Plus, @danslott.bsky.social has a really fun Bizarro World story as the back up. I wonder how long he's had that character name in his pocket..
- Its no small thing when solicitations are off or outright incorrect. There was an omnibus whose arrangement of issues I personally felt to be unreadable based on the solicitation & ordered accordingly. But then I find it isn't missing key stories after all. I'd have ordered double. Cmon publishers.
- Planet of the Apes/ Fantastic Four was a lot of fun if you like both properties. Original PotA specifically. The Red Ghost sends the FF to another dimension where they have no powers. They have their wits, but that isn't to their advantage there. No creator credits on the cover though. That's weird.
- The original Planet of the Apes really frustrated me as a kid the first time I saw it. If only Taylor could speak. Now I realize he probably would have been promptly eliminated if he revealed he could speak immediately. I didn't see the end coming. And I really worried about Nova the whole time...
- Also, check out the credits on Thundarr! Jack Kirby, Steve Gerber, Mark Evanier, Martin Pasko, Bill Wray, Dick Sebast, Bruce Zick. Not to mention Michael Ansara, Joan Van Ark, Stacy Keach on voice actiong. The series didn't run for long at all, so I'm hoping the comic can cover a lot of untold story
- The Thundarr comic is pretty much perfect. The Dynamite cartoon adaptations sometimes turn the violence up in ways that can be too much, but not here. It is appropriate for what's going on. Story is great, art is on point. I have no notes for @jason-aaron.bsky.social & team! Buy with confidence!
