I'm goin nuts with the reporting on this. I can't find a single piece that answers the question: can users upload non-anti-ICE videos? That would be a useful question to answer in order to narrow down possible causes here
this just sounds like uploading videos doesn't work
Jan 27, 2026 19:39my only guess as to why tiktok put out such a bad statement is that they aren’t really sure what went wrong OR are in the middle of writing a postmortem
i mean, my only alternative guess to malicious behavior rather
is it actually true though that videos are failing to upload when they are about ICE or Epstein and not when they are not about ICE or Epstein? Is it too much to ask of the press to answer, or even to ask, this question? It's totally plausible to me that the answer is yes but also that it's no.
I can also think of malicious and non-malicious explanations in the world where the answer is yes, but can we at least figure out whether we are in that world?
anyway I think a good rule of thumb is: if the behavior of a major online platform changes in a way that is very noticeable and makes the users mad and confirms their worst fears about the platform, and this is not accompanied by an announcement of the change, then it's probably a mistake
