- Quentin Tarantino: “I need to know where these characters come from. It’s a universe I’m creating, and I have to know my universe backward, forward, and sideways. The audience doesn’t need to know, but they need to know I know." #screenwriting

- I'm less concerned with innovation, more focused on compelling characters and good storytelling. All four films I mentioned qualify in that regard. That said, The Incomer features clever animation and Ha-Chan visually engaging fantasy elements, each in service to the story.
- I screened thirteen 2026 Sundance Film Festival movies in 54 hours. Many solid films. Four stood out: The Incomer, Ha-chan, Shake Your Booty!, Bedford Park, and Extra Geography. Writing my Go Into The Story article on the Fest films: "Stories We're Told. Stories We Tell."
- My DePaul film school students, both undergrad & grad, are obsessed with movies. It's the substance of conversations before & after classes. The Music Box Theatre audience is filled with young people. I love their passion for visual storytelling. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
