- Reading the comments under this WSJ editorial board article, it proves even WSJ commenters are recoiling from ICE brutality.
- If the NYT selections from the Epstein files are any indication, a whole movie based on the degenerate behavior of the rich and famous is probably in the works already.
- Weirdest I've read so far is what seems to be a draft letter to Bill Gates describing Gates asking Epstein to delete emails in which Gates asks Epstein to provide antibiotics he could secretly give to Melinda Gates for an STI Gates had contracted, plus some reference to Gates's penis appearance.
- I wrote NYT at the top of this thread, but it's actually the Wall Street Journal I'm reading the emails from.
- Is FIFA holding its Grammy Awards this week?
- Every organization that thinks it has the key to "life, the universe, and everything" has at least some elements of cultishness, whether it fits the mold of the abusive, coercive cult with a narcissistic leader or not.
- I avoided writing about my experience in cult-adjacent left-wing political organizations from the late 1960s through the early 1980s because it paints a distracting bulls-eye on my back from both extremes of the political spectrum. It isn't from fear, but from wanting less noise in my life.
- I just have better things to do with my diminishing remaining lifespan than to argue with people who aren't arguing in good faith. Right now my political stance is casual, pragmatic democratic socialism, unaffiliated with any organization.

View full threadBack to the subject of cults, I'm going to start carefully but honestly writing about my experiences, and how the different left organizations differed with respect to the aspects of cult-like behavior (arrogant self-assured world-view, coercive control, narcissistic leader, gaslighting, etc)
- It's lightly snowing here in Mableton in Cobb County at the moment. It's slightly more than a flurry, but doesn't yet seem hard enough to accumulate. We'll see.
- “As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.” -- H.L. Mencken
- I've enjoyed the first episodes of Star Fleet Academy, and decided to try out Strange New Worlds, which I've never watched. It got off to a bad start with me in the first episode, using a Star Trek trope (away team disguising themselves in local garb).
- The other tropes that turn me away from an episode are time travel, and "evil twin" plots.
