- Meet Dr. Anna Jarvis, pioneer of paediatric emergency medicine in Canada. 🩺 Dr. Jarvis earned her medical degree at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica and was the only emergency physician at the sole hospital on Antigua and Barbuda Islands.
- She treated between 80 and 100 patients daily during her four-hour shifts and built a strong foundation for her career in emergency paediatrics. Dr. Jarvis and her husband moved to Canada after her husband was accepted into the University of Toronto’s anesthesia program.
- Dr. Jarvis experienced barriers having her medical training and experience recognized in Canada, but took every training and career opportunity, regardless of level, that came her way. She was able to adapt, retrain, and to establish herself as a physician in Canada.
