- Another day, another bug. M365 outage hitting multiple of my customers, can't send/receive emails, and even accessing their portal errors out half of the time, so I can't monitor their incident report. GJ Microsoft.
- Holy crap, getting wifi to work on Linux is still as painful as it was 20 years ago. 1) Need to compile and install out-of-tree driver 2) Need to fiddle with modules.d config files to get the correct regulatory region applied for 6 GHz to connect (after two other suggested fix failed to work)
- Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.11 is now available for older Wifi 6 models. This release merges updated GPL, removes the AiCloud functionality (due to poor security track record) and implements the new Traffic Monitor design introduced in 3006.102.6.
- Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.11 beta 1 is now available for older Wifi 6 devices. This release focuses on updated GPL, the new Traffic Monitoring design introduced in 3006.102.6, and the removal of AiCloud due to its poor security track record. www.snbforums.com/threads/asus...
- Another price increase. The 64 GB kit I bought for $264 CAD a year ago is now $1454 CAD. www.canadacomputers.com/en/desktop-m...
- I've been monitoring the price of that 64 GB DDR5 kit that I bought a year ago at $269 CAD. The kit went up another $170 today, and now sells at $1165 CAD. Forget Bitcoin, invest in DDR5.
- And on that note, RIP Crucial: investors.micron.com/news-release... Fuck that AI bullshit. Seriously.
- My two router nurseries, November 2025.
- I forgot these two guys who are located elsewhere in the living room :)
- Because of its security track record, I will be removing AiCloud support in future Asuswrt-Merlin releases. If you need remote access to your files, use a VPN.
- Asuswrt-Merlin 3006.102.6 is now available. This release merges new GPL, has a redesigned Traffic Monitor, and adds support for the GT-BE19000AI and RT-BE58_Go. www.snbforums.com/threads/asus...
- I just saw that the 64 GB DDR5 memory kit I bought a year ago for $269 CAD when I built this PC now sells for $909 CAD... That AI bubble is killing the consumer market.
- Asuswrt-Merlin 3006.102.6 Beta 2 is now available. www.snbforums.com/threads/asus...
- A few weeks ago, it was Google (which impacted Cloudflare). Last week it was AWS. Today, it's Azure's turn to go down. Too much of the Internet relies on these three, and we are seeing the impact of each one of them going down, even just partly. Cyberattack on these three would screw us all.
- And now it's Cloudflare's turn. Sigh.
- Smart power strips + Home Assistant really help when you have a bunch of routers and need to randomly turn one on to test something on it.
- Asuswrt-Merlin 3006.102.6 Beta 1 is now available. This release has a completely redesigned Traffic Monitor, and adds support for the RT-BE58_Go and the GT-BE19000AI. www.snbforums.com/threads/asus...
- New stuff from me should be coming out tomorrow (if all goes as planned).
- I want to smash my screen every time I see a changelog consisting of nothing but: "Optimize system performance" That is f****ng useless, might as well not provide any changelog.
- Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.10_2 is now available. Resolve webui crashing issues when using the mobile app or Home Assistant integration.
- Reposting, because so relevant lately days...
- I was looking at my M365 quarantine today. Among the emails blocked by Microsoft 365 for being spam was an Email from... Microsoft, about Copilot. Even Microsoft is blocking themselves on this stuff...
- New device I will be adding in Asuswrt-Merlin 3006.102.6.
- I've been redesigning the old Traffic Monitor pages, using Chart.js and a zoom plugin. Still working on them, but already looking much better.
- Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.10 has now been released for legacy devices still on the 388 branch. This release focuses on merging a newer GPL, and the redesigned Connections page. www.snbforums.com/threads/asus...
- Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.10 Beta 2 is now available Fixes the Tweaks page, and backports part of the the Wireless Log backend code from 3006 for uniformity. www.snbforums.com/threads/asus...
- Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.10 Beta 1 is now available for legacy (388.x) devices. The focus of this release is the merge of an updated GPL, and backport of some of the 3006 changes, like the new Connection displauy. www.snbforums.com/threads/asus...
- That Intel/Nvidia deal is bad news for the consumers IMHO. Doesn't sound like Intel is willing to keep pushing hard to make Arc a viable alternative for the market.
- Dave Plummer posted an excellent video explaining online privacy, how your DNS configuration can affect it, and how things like SNI will also affect it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxFd...
- Another interesting metric - fwupdate.asuswrt-merlin.net hostname got resolved 641K times in the past 24 hours. Hard to link that to a specific installed userbase since AMTM also queries that hostname for update checking, in addition to the regular daily FW update check.
- Why has OpenAI`s crawler hit my website 489 times over the past 24 hours? Sheeesh.
- This is what software bloating looks like. Adobe Reader filesize evolution over the years: sigwait.org/~alex/blog/2...
- The folks behind ConfigServer are shutting down :( Hopefully the move of their CSF to GPL will go well. I have been using CSF for many years on multiple servers. Very powerful, yet fire-and-forget. configserver.com/announcement/
- Upgraded my Proxmox server to Proxmox 9. Everything went smoothly (the only minor issues were all documented in their documentation).
