Birds & Butterflies of West Bengal
#YNWA
- Day 5 of proving bird names makes no sense. The naming is all over the place for this fairly common north American warbler. A name is supposed to describe the species/paint anyone a mental picture easily. This species got its name for the shape of the nest it builds🤦🏻♂️ #birds #WhatWereTheyThinking
- First ever record of Pectoral sandpiper from eastern India in its entirety. Photographed off the coast of Bay of Bengal in frazergunj by a team of 5 bird watchers at midday yesterday. Found roaming in a pond a bit away from the actual shore. This is a vagrant for India. Photograph off Facebook.
- Found some people really upset about a death across the world. More than a genocide actually. So it seems to be a good day to post this.
- Day 5 of proving bird names makes no sense. This is another interesting one. This fairly common Australian robin was called brown flycatcher till 1926. Then its name changed under colonialism supposedly due to its winter call. Now it’s a mob boss. Or a porn star. #birds #WhatWereTheyThinking
- Intellectual and moral rot has set in so deep in this country that a known YouTuber is defending corruption?? What???? These specimens are above and beyond the level of mockery and insults. I refuse to acknowledge them as humans anymore
- Day 4 of proving bird names makes no sense. This is an interesting one. It was supposed to have a hummingbird added to its name at the end. But during some point, someone decided to omit it and that name have stuck since! Like what??? I give up🙏🏻 #birds #WhatWereTheyThinking
- Ohh my god. A flycatcher is stuck with a depressing name because someone wrongly identified it instead of pewee. Talk about injustice😔
- Day 3 of proving bird names makes no sense. Like what is even this? Can you be any more literal?? #birds #WhatWereTheyThinking
- Saturday was sad. So happy Sunday? This west Mexican wren is unbothered by the world and permanently off sadness. Dat 2 of providing further proof that avian naming makes no sense.
- Okay then. Let’s start with this inexplicable name. A Jamaican flycatcher who is forbidden to be happy. This is one of those names that absolutely shut me up with the suddenness, the fact that it hasn’t been changed since is even more ridiculous. I would loveeee to know the lore behind its name
- When Sylvia Plath wrote, “being born a woman is my awful tragedy”, the entire female population of the Indian subcontinent felt that personally
- Apparently a slogan is a terrorism while this is not. On video, a rescue operation in a hospital is attacked. The level of war crime committed off video is not even comprehensible. The pattern of attacking the journalists, children, women, wounded are still the same months later. Ghouls.
- NTCA on July 25th filed an affidavit in Bombay HC stating they were in process of strengthening the definition of tiger corridors based on various criteria. About a month later, they flipped on their own decision and included only the least cost tiger pathways. You can only laugh because logic🚀
- Neither they will progress nor will they let anyone progress! Sci-Hub has been ordered to be banned across India by a Delhi HC order. Entirely a section of Indian academia runs on scihub. The students who cannot afford subscription are gonna be left in the dark.
- Pedophilia used to be a career ended in any field let alone politics. Now it’s another promotion in Israel and govt coordinated escape plan from US. Unreal.
- Back from a field visit where I finally managed to photograph a chocolate albatross after years of seeing it, and well ignoring it. An incredibly common butterfly in the sub-mountainous regions of India. Their large scale mud puddling in riverbeds is a sight to behold. #butterfliesofindia
- Fellas, is it unpatriotic to eat meat on Independence Day?
