Liberal. Father. Tech generalist.
I like building things.
- Why do all the planes have to come into Manchester Airport sideways
- It's coffee freezing day 😎 green for Chemex 4-cup, grey for v60 2-cup. Dump these straight out of the freezer and into the grinder for more more consistency from brew to brew - and anecdotally I think the grind profile is more even as well. Cheaper, too!
- Ah, the London new year exposition-dump fireworks show is on again
- Someone saw a promo for a TV channel and thought "..oh wow, that's exactly what we want for our new years celebrations"
- Merry Christmas nerds
- "impact of what happened [..] has led him to seek professional help." The bravery, honesty, humility and vulnerability demonstrated in this article is incredibly inspiring. I won't call him a hero if he doesn't want us to but I look up to him and I hope he finds peace: www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
- Of course the beavers operate the dam :D
- Very cool that I can test these for size 😎 everyone should have a 3D printer
- We just launched a new product - Pebble Index 01 It's a small ring, with a button and mic. Press the button, talk and it saves your thought. I use it many times during the day to jot down reminders, todos, book recs, etc while my hands are full. Just $75 - preorders on rePebble.com/index
- randomNumber() will return a random number, which is always 7. But don't worry - it was written in Rust, so it's very secure.
- Can someone explain to this old man how to follow FOSDEM discourse on Bluesky. I thought I had but the feed's last post was two months ago 🤔
- There is a leak in our office. Someone helpfully put a bin under it to catch the water.
- I understand why couldnt-give-a-fuck Evri drivers put my parcels in the bin as a "safe place" - why are unionised Royal Mail workers doing it too?
- They gave me a blood pressure monitor yesterday after testing my blood pressure right after my flu jab and finding it to be "quite high". But they said I couldn't see the results. Thing is, this has a USB port on it..

- Really thought-provoking talk, looking forward to sharing the video

- "Welcome to OSM. I'm reverting your changeset."
- Transport for Greater Manchester has an ingenious method for encouraging walking; bet you couldn't guess what it is.
- What is everyone's favourite #raspberrypipico or #esp32 screen? LCD/OLED/Other? This would be for a scale..
- This was an incredibly fun episode of Ask Hank Anything. There's been a few of them now actually.
- @vicmmic.bsky.social asked @hankgreen.bsky.social all the right questions...or made all the right declarative statements in this episode. Get all the answers now at youtube.com/complexly
- It was dns
- "Bridging algorithms significantly weakened the link between partisanship and engagement and modestly improved viewpoint diversity, but it also increased attention inequality" This seems like a relatively good tradeoff, all things considered, but it sounds a lot like "old" broadcast media too. Hmm.
- @ternbicycles.com When is the GSD S10 Gen 3 coming to the UK in beetle blue? All the advertising is in that colour but it's not even available to back-order :(
- Is it just me or are lots of unsubscribe buttons on emails conveniently broken nowadays? 🤔
- The evil one must summon, in their core, to oppose the expansion of rights for one group based on the unsubstantiated fears of another group, is insane. Especially when these rights have been long-held in other places in the world. And I cannot summon the diplomatic tongue to call it anything else.
- The decision by Google to wind down AOSP clears the way for @fairphone.com to assert themselves as the manufacturer for those who want control over their OS.
- (I'll also be looking for a new OS because as much as I like gOS I can't fucking stand the developers just accusing everyone of being stupid/ignorant/disinegnuous and/or attacking them/advertising for competitors whenever you happen to mention them)
- I just created my first Cloud Run service with an image from the GitHub Container Repository. Wow, that was fucking horrible. Fuck you Google, I'll never get that time back.
- "As these tools become more powerful and affordable, skepticism in media will grow. But the question isn't whether we can trust what we see and hear. It's whether we can trust who's showing it to us." Good, sober analysis. The camera always lied.
- Stockport is lovely. I am genuinely taken by how lovely it is.

- Reposted by James BelchamberIndeed, I think people are being super black or/and white about current tech. It also doesn't help that the loud voice for the tech (specially online) is from grifters, so a large number of end users don't want to accept if the tech might even be of the smallest help... Interesting times ahead.
