- Press & media enquiries With the Government’s Schools White Paper expected soon, Kids is available to support journalists and media with expert comment and on-the-ground perspectives on special educational needs and disabilities. Email: press@kids.org.uk
- Data from @ambitiousautism.bsky.social reveals that 1 in 6 autistic pupils haven’t been in school since September. This isn’t “poor attendance”, it’s a system failing to meet their needs. No child should be held back because the system doesn't support them. www.theguardian.com/education/20...
- Too often, behaviour and attendance policies are applied rigidly, without reasonable adjustments. But small changes can make a huge difference - even flexibility around where and when a child eats can be the difference between staying in school or not.
- Young people tell us that a shift in school culture is needed to fully support inclusion of children with SEND. Inclusion isn’t one person’s job. It must be designed with young people and built into the whole school: classrooms, playgrounds, policies, attitudes and teaching practices.
- Ahead of the government’s Schools White Paper, the @dcpcampaign.bsky.social is calling for a system that gives schools and colleges the funding, training, and support they need - with families treated as partners. #SEND #FightForOrdinary
- National Network of Parent Carer Forums Co-Chairs Jo and Sarah at the end of presenting another fantastic conference. We presented them with a collective squishmallow each for having such great energy and allowing us to be part of it!
- A new report from the British Dyslexia Association ‘Lost in the system: Councils’ blind spot on dyslexia’ shows that fewer than 2% of local authorities know how many dyslexic children there are in their area, leaving many without support. Read the report: simplebooklet.com/bdalostinthe...
- Today, Aisia and Heather are at the #NNPCF conference. It's been a busy start, connecting with forum members and sharing information about Kids and the Digital Services Consortium.
- "Parents will be worried about plans until they can see, in black and white, that legally guaranteed support will be there for every child who needs it." Read what our CEO, @katieghose.bsky.social, shared in @theguardian.com: www.theguardian.com/education/20...
- SEND reform must protect children’s rights, retains EHCPs, and strengthen legal protections for all ages. #SEND #FightForOrdinary
