- Anyway, Hays was a red county until 2018 when it flipped blue and is now a nice rich purple thanks mostly to the youth vote! www.texastribune.org/2018/11/15/t...
- It's been pretty blue for a long time. The majority of our reps are dems & have been.
- Good to know. Hays County was not always thus.
- My state rep (Zwiener), state senator (Zaffirini), congressman (Casar), judge (Becerra), justice of the peace (Mendoza, Smith), Constable (Torres), Board of Education (Bell-Metereau) & DA (Higgins) are all Dems
- Oh I totally believe you! I was working off out of date information obviously! My impression/memory from the nineties and early 2000s was that Hays was red to unpredictable and it depended on where in the county you lived. Does that sound right? I didn’t know it had shifted so firmly to the Dems.
- No, you're right! That's how it was. It's been shifting that way since ~2010 (around the time I moved here). I was just sharing how much it's changed 🥲 However, the people moving in from CA are making this area a little more conservative than it's been the past 15 years.Feb 4, 2026 20:28
- Ugh. Well at least you can count on a steady stream of artists getting pushed out of Austin. 🙃
