- It’s been all about the white-winged gulls up in the North of Lewis this past few days. #BirdingScotland #IsleOfLewis
- Orcas past my Shorewatch site this morning. Doesn’t get much better than this The 012s pod, with their matriarch Bréagha #IsleOfLewis #CetaceansUK
- Finally got a decent bird on my trail camera. Red-eyed Vireo 12th October nr Port of Ness, Isle of Lewis #BirdingScotland #UKBirding #RareBirdsUK #birds 🪶 🦉
- Cropped clip from the trail cam
- Strong Aurora outside. Pup is snoozing, he knows better than to go out into the cold
- Always wonderful to see an otter and two is a bonus #IsleOfLewis #OuterHebridesMammals
- Always wonderful to see an otter and two is a bonus #IsleOfLewis #OuterHebridesMammals
- Glossy Ibis hanging out at Loch Stiapabhat #IsleOfLewis #OuterHebridesBirds
- Masses of Redwings swooshing down from the sky is one of the most evocative sounds of Autumn
- Think this was a Barred Warbler, it was not playing ball with me 😂 #IsleOfLewis #OuterHebridesBirds
- Enjoyed watching the Cattle Egrets today #IsleOfLewis #OuterHebridesBirds
- White-tailed Eagle in the mist at Loch Stiapabhat
- Ooh Glossy Ibis over the Butt of Lewis #OuterHebridesBirding #IsleOfLewis
- Ended my day with a couple of hours sea-watching from my car. So many Sooty Shearwaters going by. Great Northern Diver and loads of Gannets (other half saw a single whale blow) Also saw several Arctic Skuas and a couple of Manx Shearwaters
- A lovely flock of Snow Buntings at the lighthouse #OuterHebridesBirds #IsleOfLewis
- A hen harrier flushing all the birds from the scrubby bushes I was surveying #OuterHebridesBirds #IsleOfLewis
- My day started with a White-tailed Eagle eating a crab #OuterHebridesBirds #IsleOfLewis
- A bird hide is only as good as its approach. Every bird sees you as you walk to Loch Stiapabhat. Drives me up the wall. I often ‘scope the loch from the road now which totally defeats the object of having a hide
- Hurray some birds! Thanks to a heads up from a visiting birder I’ve just seen Cattle Egrets on Lewis
- 2 coots cannot be my Autumn birding highlight at Loch Stiapabhat this year! Maybe something will get blown here this weekend
- Best birdwatching buddy is exhausted tonight
- Taiga Bean Geese (2) with Greylags on the far side of Loch Stiapabhat this morning #OuterHebrides #BirdingScotland #UKBirding #RareBirdsUK #birds 🪶 🦉
- Loch Stiapabhat this morning. Highlights were 2 Bean Geese with the Greylags, Bar-tailed Godwit and juv. Grey Plover with the Curlews
- Brody and I are birdwatching the shoreline for waders. Just a single Knot and a handful of Redshanks and Curlews. Highlight was a gorgeous male Merlin. Brody is tired after a run up the croft and on the beach. He is less than impressed to be here
- Staking out areas with cover and plenty of shelter/food. The lack of birds is becoming more obvious as the years pass by and it’s extremely worrying.
- Peregrine at Loch Stiapabhat
- Peregrine at Loch Stiapabhat
- Whinchat making the most of newly managed areas at Loch Stiapabhat #OuterHebrides
- Horrible video, from a mobile phone through a rain speckled car window. I’m watching a little snow bunting at the Butt of Lewis. It’s been a tricky day for birds so this is a lovely end to the day
- Reposted by Nessie_wIsabelline wheatear, Isle of Lewis- a super find by Jack Morris/Dan Beadle. #IsleofLewis #BirdingScotland
- Grateful that this Isabelline Wheatear stayed around long enough for me to catch up with it. Up at Cunndal near Eoropie. Lots of Sanderling too. My favourite time of year
