i know there's a few historical sources that suggest that cossacks would have worn earrings in the army (two earrings for being an only child, left earring only for being the only son of his mother, right earring only for being the remaining heir) so maybe it's playing off of that 🤔

this is one of those things i only know bc there's a similar practice where i live and a bunch of older relatives who were doing their mandatory service during the youth rebellion movement in the 80s got their ears pierced with these old meanings lmao
